An exploration in colour, light and texture
Who am I
Art has provided a sense of identity for me with nature discoveries and colour explorations as seen in my homeland of Queensland, bringing joy and an ‘inner life’ to my work.
I have been fortunate to spend a lifetime of inherited creativity to experience several art directions from art teaching to fashion and interior design. Influences have come from my studies and Australian artists like John Olsen as well as in the last 20 years from various O/S artists who have revived the ancient & versatile Encaustic-Wax medium with contemporary techniques in painting.
My painterly art style reveals the passionate expression I possess with a deeply personal inner sentiment that evoke feelings and memory for me to share with all.
PROCESS
The Encaustic-Wax medium that is mostly used in my work and is one of the oldest painting and durable techniques, dating back to the 4 th Century BC. with early Fayum mummy portraits from Egypt. Encaustic Wax was used to coat the exterior of Trojan ships to decorate & seal against harsh seas. The word Encaustic comes from Greek times & means to burn in (fuse). Since 20th Century we have seen a resurgence with Encaustic as an artform with the desire of artists and craftpersons worldwide to explore versatility and mixed media potential in their artwork. Originally consisting of beeswax, damar resin and colour pigment that is worked with while heated to certain temperature and applying it with tools or brushes to rigid surface or papers.
Bio-Morphic
My spontanious process in painting has a unique bio-morphic form of art whereby imagery and design elements of naturally occurring patterns or shapes appear all on their own. They are reminiscent of nature and living organisms observed abstractly in the creation and have not been preconceived. It’s as if personal hidden forms and emotions from almost ethereal forces communicated themselves through colour and image marks that can be share and embraced.
Prints
Select from an extensive collection of museum grade Giclee canvas prints, undetectably replicating the ancient art form of Encaustic-wax with vivid detail on canvas with a life of around 100 years. These high quality prints manufactured in Queensland, Australia are produced from my original paintings and are available in various sizes either rolled canvas, stretched or framed finishes. My Vision
My art journey has taken me to a place to share my spiritual connection with light, colour and movement from living in Far North Queensland’s coastal waters in Australia. It provides positive energy for a healthy and emotional well being, coming out of the shadows of the past as expressed in my creative paintings.
